More Descendants 2 news!

The world premiere of the music video for ‘Ways to be Wicked‘ was debuted at the 2017 RDMAs and is now available to watch on YouTube.

Have a look here:

The music is absolutely amazing and I would like to know how Auradon Prep got into that state. The choreography is amazing and gives off some High School Musical vibes (Kenny Ortega, who directed HSM also directs this). This is hyping us up more and I can’t wait for the movie.

BUT WAIT….. THERE’S MORE!

A new trailer for the movie was also released. This is an extended trailer (1 minute 40 seconds of pure goodness) and we get to see more of Uma (played by China Anne McClain). We see Mal trying to fit into Auradon Prep but can’t handle being that good and goes back to the Isle. There she meets Harry Hook (played by Thomas Doherty) and Uma, and undergoes a hair colour change – blonde Mal to pink-haired Mal? Uma wants Fairy Godmother’s wand and has kidnapped Ben (oh no!). How will the 4 VKs get out of this one?

Have a look at the trailer here:

The DCOM premieres on Disney Channel (as well as¬†ABC, Freeform, Lifetime, Disney X D simultaneously) on July 21. Seriously CANNOT wait for the movie and I’m counting down the days till it airs (SO HYPED). Who else is excited?? ūüėÄ ūüėÄ

‘The Lodge’ – Impressions

Hey guys! If you’ve seen my last post, recently there has been a new show on Disney Channel called ‘The Lodge‘. I’ve recently watched it and I absolutely love it!

(there may be some spoilers ahead, I’m sorry but I may get really excited)

‘The Lodge’ centres around 15 year old Skye (Sophie Simnett) who moves from the city to rural Northern Ireland, to a local hotel where her mother grew up. However, what she didn’t know when she moved is that her father and grandfather were planning to sell the place. Skye convinces them to not sell and gives the place a unique and modern makeover. She also attracts the eye of a TV reality producer who wants to showcase Skye in a show called “My Amazing Life” and show how she is running the hotel.

Skye also make friends with the workers at the “North Star Lodge” (the hotel) who are all around the same age as her. She gets to experience what her mother felt like growing up and discovers bits of her mother’s past she never knew about (this adds a cool mystery element to the show). Skye also gets into some sort of love triangle between two friends (which kinda resembles ‘Girl Meets World’ but with swapped genders).

My first impression of ‘The Lodge’ was that the first episode had some quite awkward dialogue which was expected when the cast is introduced to one another. However, as the series progressed Skye made quick friends with most of the people and we see how the friendship blossoms.

If you read my previous post, I predict that there would be some spontaneous singing. Well, my predictions were right! There is a tendency in each of the episodes for one or few of the cast members to break into song. However, the songs in the series do help and move the storyline along. Some of the songs are sung a number of times by different members of the cast which turns the song into their own and showcases their voices. Even some of the guest stars get to sing a song and I was thoroughly surprised by the talent of the whole cast!

This show has seriously left me on the edge of my seat with all the drama and mystery involved with it and I always can’t wait for the next episode to show. Unfortunately, ‘The Lodge’ only has the first season with 10 episodes and I am unsure whether there’s going to be a second season (please let’s hope there is). This show has a lot of good aspects to it and I especially love the singing. It happens, although it is quite weird to just break into song, more organically and involves more cast members than just performance-based typed singing seen in ‘Liv & Maddie’ or ‘Austin & Ally’.

If you want to hear all the songs from the show, they are available for purchase from Apple iTunes music or streamed on Spotify. My favourite songs from the show have got to be ‘Believe That’ and ‘What I’ve Been Wishing For’.

If you haven’t watched the show, I highly recommend you watch it!!! It has so many different genres involved from comedy to mystery to musical and romance so there would always be something in this show that you would find interesting.

Movie Review: Raising the Bar

Raising the Bar was released on May 6th, 2016 and stars Kelli Berglund (Lab Rats). This movie follows a 16 year old gymnast who screwed up in a major competition and decides to move from America to Australia with her mother. There she joins the gymnastic team and tries to tackle her demons from her past.

This movie has the typical new place, new school where the main character has to make new friends has some rivals and a possible romance. However, it was wonderfully shot with some humour injected between the seriousness that is gymnastics competition. Kelli Berglund also has a very emotional scene that her character is in which comes across heart-wrenching to the audience.

It was also nice to see the mixture of Australian culture into the movie, from the accent to driving on the opposite side of the road to America and netball. It was a good perspective of a foreigner in another country which was played upon in this movie.

If you like gymnastics, or want to marvel at this incredible and physically demanding sport, then watch the trailer to find out more:

Book Review: Return to the Isle of the Lost

Return to the Isle of the Lost by Melissa De La Cruz is her second book about Descendants released on May 24th 2016.

This book follows on from where the Disney Channel Original Movie left off, in Auradon. The story shows how the VK (Villain Kids) are doing pretty well at Auradon Prep and have realised that being good isn’t that bad. Maleficent is still a lizard, but there have been sightings of a purple dragon in Auradon. All four VKs also receive a strange message that have got them thinking about home.

This book is filled with some twists and turns that made me want to continue reading to see what happens. Some of the plot twists seem obvious, but they really aren’t. It also incorporates a lot of what happens in the movie as well as the spin-off show¬†Descendants: Wicked World. They also included some of the extra characters from that animation like Freddie (Dr.¬†Facilier’s daughter) and Jordan (Genie’s daughter) as well as other characters we have met in the movie.

I also like how in this book, we are able to explore more of Auradon and build up a picture of it in our minds. It gives us a better picture of this world that we may not be able to see in the animation series or the movie. We also get a few chapters in Ben’s perspective as he travels Auradon, so we get to see how all the places are connected. The book also has a map of Auradon.

After this book, I can’t wait for the second¬†Descendants movie! Also, it was recently announced that Melissa De La Cruz will be releasing a third¬†Descendants novel in May 2017! I can’t wait for where this story leads to.

This book would be great for anyone that is already into the¬†Descendants world or wanting to get into it. If you haven’t already, read Melissa De La Cruz’s first book which is the prequel to the¬†Descendants movie!

Jordan Fisher’s New EP

You’ve probably seen him and heard his vocal talents in Liv & Maddie and Teen Beach Movie on Disney Channel or most recently on Grease: Live!, but Jordan Fisher has now released his debut self-titled E.P.¬†The E.P. was released August 19, 2016 and has four songs on it.

This multi-talented artist and Radio Disney’s newest Next Big Thing (N.B.T) first released “All About Us” a few months back and has been on a whirlwind radio tour promoting his E.P. The music video for this has already reached 3.5 million views and the song is climbing the charts. Other songs on the E.P. are “Counterfeit”, “All I Wanna Do” and “Lookin’ Like That”.

All songs showcase his incredible vocal range and a falsetto that is not humanly possible. Songs on the E.P have a mixture of R&B, pop and some hip-hop. These songs make you want to dance and his voice has this cool swagger that hugs the lyrics which gives them purpose and meaning.

This E.P is an amazing introduction for Jordan Fisher and we can’t wait for the album!Jordan Fisher’s E.P. is available for download on iTunes and Google Play and able to be streamed on Spotify.

Show I’m loving at the moment: Backstage

Backstage is a Canadian teen drama series which started earlier this year. It follows a group of teenagers that all attend a prestigious performing arts school where there are different specialisations including music, art and dance. It has been renewed for a second season starting in 2017.

Backstage follows a group of teenagers that attend Keaton, an intense high school that focuses on the performing arts. Most of these teenagers dream of making it big one day in the future, and Keaton is just a stepping stone to their path to fame. However, day-to-day life can get in the way and these problems are intensified by being in such a fast-pace, high-stress environment. It touches on a wide range of issues, that are quite mature for a children’s show, such as family, friendship, rivalry, competition and school.

The show is shot documentary style and follows the students as they attend class and try to hone their talent. They is also a “confession cam” where individual students talk to a camera about what is going on as well as confess feelings. We get to connect deeper with the characters as it feels like they are talking to us.

Backstage follows multiple students. We have ballet dancers, Carly and Vanessa, who are best friends – we’ll see whether their friendship can last the pressure of Keaton. There’s also Sasha, a fellow dancer and school gossip columnist. Scarlett, a singer who wants to be a star. Alya, a talented singer who lacks confidence and many more characters. It would be easy to find someone you can relate to with such a diverse cast.

Does this seem like a show you’re interested in? Check out the trailer to find out more:

TGATDC New EP! – ‘Negatives’

The Girl and the Dreamcatcher, made up of Dove Cameron and Ryan McCartan, just released their debut EP last week called ‘Negatives’. This EP showcases the amazing vocal talents of these two in songs that express and encapsulate a wide range of topics. Here is a breakdown of the songs in the EP:

tgatdc

  • Make You Stay: this song was released a while before the EP accompanied by a sweet music video which also starred Luke Benward and has amassed more than 5 million views. This is the first song off the EP and the lyrics are so sweet and simple and depict a person wanting to do anything to make their partner stay. This song really warms the heart and their vocals on this song are perfect.
  • Glowing In The Dark: this was another song that was released earlier, a whole 6 months before the release of the EP. The music video has already gotten more than 13 million views and this song had fans hooked for this new EP. This song has a awesome beat and carries on the theme of the entire EP.
  • Gladiator: This is another sweet song off the EP. Gladiator has sweet lyrics which that gives off such a strong message: “I go gladiator for your love”, a line in the chorus which shows that love is worth fighting for.
  • My Way: this song expresses the craving to do things “My Way”. TGATDC show that they want to express thing in their own way that shows individuality and creativity. They have definitely encompassed what this song is about through their EP.¬†Dove’s higher register gives the chorus an eerie feel that really speaks to you.
  • Cry Wolf: This song is definitely upbeat which the strong lyrical undertones it is trying to portray. Cry Wolf speaks of relationships, especially the highs and lows of one, the wanting to leave but then coming back. “All we ever do is cry wolf” – possibly a reference to the story “The Boy who Cried Wolf” (?). The whole song has an animalistic feel that just makes you want to move.
  • Monster: this haunting ballad rounds off this exceptional EP with soaring melodies and relatable lyrics that seem to fill every space within you. Their voices meld together and complement each other so well in this song.

Dove and Ryan have taken us on a journey on this EP. Our ears have been blessed with the way their voices blend and complement each other. Their voices are given equal opportunities to shine and we get to really hear the extensive range in their voices. I have officially caught “the dream”. If this is just the beginning, can’t wait for what new music they have in store for us! or maybe a full album is next?
You can purchase The Girl and the Dreamcatcher’s debut EP on iTunes and Google Play Music. It is also available to stream on Spotify as well as on their YouTube channel.
